Application of structural reliability theory to seismic design of nuclear power plant

Authors: Bruce, R.L.

Abstract: The design of nuclear power plants has suffered severe cost penalties due to excessive conservatism in the seismic design process. This paper discusses new methods in structural reliability which, when fully developed, will permit seismic design to be performed more rationally.
